Statins, exercise, and exercise training.

چکیده
Statins are life-saving medications and so effective that some have suggested they be added to the drinking water to “fluorinate” the vascular bed against atherosclerotic disease. But statins, both in research models and clinically, can have deleterious effects on skeletal muscle. The most serious side effects are myositis and rhabdomyolysis manifested by marked elevations in creatine kinase and associated, in several studies, with variants in the hepatic organic anion transporter protein SLCO1B1 (1). These variations result in reduced statin hepatic uptake and expose more of the periphery and skeletal muscle to the drug. Rhabdomyolysis is extremely rare in the absence of concomitant medications such as gemfibrozil, cyclosporine, human immunodeficiency virus protease inhibitors, azole antifungals, and macrolide antibiotics that increase statin blood and muscle levels (2).

The use of statins potentiates the insulin-sensitizing effect of exercise training in obese males with and without Type 2 diabetes.
Exercise training is advocated in insulin resistance and statins are used to treat hyperlipidaemia, two cardiometabolic risk factors often presenting concurrently. Statin intake may blunt mitochondrial function and the adaptive response to exercise training. Thus combining exercise training with statin administration may have adverse effects. We examined whether improvements in cardiometabolic ...
متن کاملStatins and Exercise Training Response in Heart Failure Patients: Insights From HF-ACTION.
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess for a treatment interaction between statin use and exercise training (ET) response. BACKGROUND Recent data suggest that statins may attenuate ET response, but limited data exist in patients with heart failure (HF). METHODS HF-ACTION (Heart Failure: A Controlled Trial Investigating Outcomes of Exercise Training) was a randomized trial of 2,331 p...
متن کاملTrimetazidine restores the positive adaptation to exercise training by mitigating statin‐induced skeletal muscle injury
BACKGROUND Exercise rehabilitation is demonstrated to improve the prognosis of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). Statins, as the key medicine to lower cholesterol in CHD, result in skeletal muscle injury and impair exercise training adaptation. Energy metabolism dysfunction is identified as the potential mechanism underlying statin-induced skeletal muscle injury. In this study, we inv...
متن کاملEffective of aerobic and anaerobic exercise training on the inflammatory markers and lipid plasma levels
The purpose of present study was to investigate effectiveness of aerobic and non-aerobic exercise training on some inflammatory markers that affects on creation cardiovascular disease. 45 young healthy men randomly among students of Hamadan Payame Noor University divided to 3groups including: 1.] experimental group1 including aerobic exercise training, 2.] Experimental group2 including non-aero...
متن کاملThe Effect of Exercise Training on Inflammatory Markers in Patient with Metabolic Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Introduction: Metabolic syndrome is associated with an increase in chronic inflammation, in which exercise training may be an effective intervention for the improvement of inflammatory markers. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the effect of exercise training on the inflammatory markers of interleukin 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and C-reactive protein (CRP) in pati...
متن کاملPistacia Atlantica Extract Enhances Exercise-Mediated Improvement of Antioxidant Defense in Vistar Rats
Exercise training causes increased oxidative stress. Pistacia Atlantica Extract (Mastic) is known to have a protective effect against oxidative stress and inflammation. We examined the effects of exercise training with and without Pistacia Atlantica extract administration on antioxidant markers in vistar rats. Twenty-eight Vistar female rats (six to eight weeks old, 150-200 g weight) allocate...
